Become A Vegetarian – How To Stop Eating Meat

The world is quickly becoming aware of our negative impact on the environment and many are exploring different ways to lessen the strain on our earth. In 2000, vegetarianism was surveyed at 2.5% of Americans and since then it has risen to 6.7 in a 2006 survey.

So why should you be a vegetarian? Something that has really set natures clock into overdrive is the high levels of methane gas that are produced from 1.3 cows around the world. Each cow is producing 800 to 1,000 liters of methane gas each day. Methane causes heat to become trapped in the earth's atmosphere, causing heat to build and global warming to surge.

People who choose to consume meats are at risk for many animal diseases such as mad cow disease, e-coli poisoning, salmonella, and though studies have not yet proven it contagious to humans: BIV...a bovine form of AIDS.

Meat is also very fattening with even the leanest beef containing at least 7% fat. Some fats are healthy and needed to maintain health, but animal fat is not a healthy fat. Fat from animals is saturated fat, which clogs arteries, creates heart problems, and heightens cholesterol.

Meat is constipating which can lead to colon cancer because it contains no fiber. When you ingest meat, it ferments in your bowels, causing painful and embarrassing gas as it slowly digests. Meat digests so slowly that it is a cause of heartburn in many people.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Let's face facts. It is quick and easy to bag some packaged meat at the supermarket and throw it in a pan. Grocery stores worldwide make it easy to forget the faces of the animals we kill to eat. It is very convenient to not think about what hormones, antibiotics, modified grains, and other drugs are being pumped into the poor creatures before they are slaughtered and packaged with their carcasses dumped. But it you could see the animals life played for you from birth and romping to injections and slaughtering, you probably would be a little less interested in eating ol' daisy. Some people do try to show you what the life of a meat animal is like, but most don;t watch. Too messy and upsetting. Try being the cow!

Everyone needs food. If you require assistance, it isn't hard to apply for foodstamps. You can find directions on how to apply for Florida food stamps, or for any other state in the United States where you might live.
